The Birth of Las Vegas
Many are curious how Las Vegas got started. A approximately 10,000 years ago, the first original founders who touched Vegas were the Paleo-Indians. They basically lived their daily lives as Nomads, which they were going from place to place and never settled down. The Paleo-Indians persistently traveled around. Eventually 2,000 years later another Native American tribe came along called the Anasazi Indians. they migrated toward the unknown valley which is now called Nevada. It was an opportunity for them because they were able to establish a fresh start. It was their territory and land to have to themselves since the land was unnamed and not owned by others. The Anasazi Indians were the first ones to settle in Nevada. they called it the "Lost City" in their language.
In the Early 1800's...
Later in 1829, a Mexican-American young man name Rafael Rivera was exploring the west to find something new. He was the first American to discover this place with ferile soil and enough water locally to slow the trip down for a few days. Mr. Rivera named the land in Spanish, "The Meadows". In English this means, Las Vegas. This is was the beginning of how Las Vegas was born.
About Two Decades Later...
In 1844, anither explorer came along; his name was John C. Fremont who was a military officer and was the first candidate of the anti-salvery Republican Party. Mr. Fremont was on an expedition from Salt Lake City, Utah to California and he was going there for the Gold Rush. Fremont and over a dozen partners, set up camps in Las Vegas on May 13th 1844 near the same location where Refael Rivera had settled previously. They settled there because they thought was a perfect place and land to build a town and made it permanent. Mr. Fremont and his whole party been camping ever since they've came from Salt City, Utah.
There were conflicts and arguments between Refael Rivera and John C. Fremont on who should have been called the founder of Las Vegas. They actually disliked each other and since they heard they both found it, then there was never any peace with each other about that ever since. Some felt Mr. Rivera should be called founder because was the first non-Indian to settle there but others say that John C. Fremont should be considered the founder because he basically put Las Vegas on the map. John did many things that Rivera didn't and was't skilled at, John had experienced traveling, being a general, has great leadership and skills when it came to emergencies and problems. Neither, Mr. Rivera and Mr. Fremont always had this selfishness and greed in who was first. Not only that but to be the few people to in the west thought to reward themselves with gold after exploring through Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, Rivera and Fremont did not find much later in the years after they settled.

Plus it was settled by important numbers of people over a century ago. As in insteresting facts in Las Vegas, back in their days, during the summer in the hot heat, people would use wet sheets to wrap themselves in to stay cool. Others were afraid of rapists and criminals coming through cracked windows as an open invitation to come in to commit crimes.
